THE TOWER OF LONDON

The unmissable Tower of London offers an insight into an intriguing and gruesome medieval past. This 11th-century fortress is home to the Crown Jewels and is perhaps most famously remembered as being the prison where a king, three queens and many nobles met their death.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY

A sublime synthesis of architectural styles, Westminster Abbey is one of the finest examples of Early English Gothic. Not merely a place of worship – the Abbey is still a working church and in 2011 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married here.

For almost a millennia since William the Conqueror was crowned under its roof in 1066, this monastic church has played host to the coronation of every king and queen bar two. The likes of Charles Darwin, Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Dickens are among over 3,000 people buried and commemorated in its grounds.

ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL

This magnificent English Baroque Cathedral has stood tall for more than 300 years. Its impressive dome has become a symbol of pride and resilience for Londoners after it was rebuilt following the Great Fire of London in 1666. The cathedral’s masterful symmetrical design has become a popular phenomenon as a whispering gallery and its rooftop gallery allows unparalleled sweeping views of London and the night sky.
